Jonathan Field Horsemanship 2021

June 17, 2021 by Mark Thompson

Canadian horseman, Jonathan Field, will present a clinic at Cottonwood Creek Equestrian Center in Cottonwood, California from November 5th through the 7th, 2021.  Jonathan has an inspiring story of his journey from oil field driller to master horseman and he has taken all of those experiences and packaged them into a program called Inspired by Horses.  The program is “designed to teach owners how to become excellent horsemen and women, and overcome any fears” that they, “horse and human, may be experiencing.”

From Cottonwood Creek’s website:

Jonathan refers to his program as Inspired by Horse® because it is the horses that inspired him to develop it.  Teaching you to think the way a horse thinks keeps your horse interested in you, allowing you to gain access to something very special – the ultimate relationship with a horse.

With Jonathan’s natural ability to communicate, he’s made his program fun and easy to understand. The Field Horsemanship Program begins with an 80% focus on teaching you the skills, abilities, talents and traits to become a horseman or horsewoman and use these skills to further your horse. .

He is a gifted teacher, presenter and horseman with a driving passion to share his message.

Only twelve rider spots will be available for this clinic, however, they unlimited spots for auditors.  The Clinic is $800 ($740 before October 1st) and auditors are $30 per day or $75 for all three days.

For more information and to get the registration form and information sheet, please visit Cottonwood Creek Equestrian Center’s event page or call 530-347-0212.

There are a few spots open, so email if you would like to attend. swirgler@sbcglobal.net

This workshop is designed to build confidence in you and your horse!  It is recommended for any level of horse and rider team.  We will be working on supporting our horses and becoming a better team.  There are many ways to help our horses know that we are good leaders, and we will study some of those techniques.  We will start on the ground first to establish focus and a syncing of minds.  Then apply that feel and focus to our riding, and strive for perfect harmony and control of all 4 feet.  Some of the maneuvers we will engage are stop, back up, sidepass, hindquarter control, and shoulder control.  With control of the feet – we can have confidence!

  • Where: Wirgler Ranch
  • Time: 9 am – 4 pm
  • Pot luck lunch
  • Full day fee: $150

Groundwork Clinic Series with Justin Nicolson

May 23, 2021 by Mark Thompson

Learn firsthand the real meaning behind “groundwork” and how it can improve the relationship between you and your horse in a fun, new way!

We’ll be covering some of the following topics plus whatever groundwork questions you come prepared with (there is no riding during these clinics, only groundwork!):

— Concepts on the ground that transition to riding

— Controlling the horse’s body parts

— Teaching your horse to respond to “feel”

— Using body language to talk like a horse

— How to exercises the mind, not just the body

Learn what you can work on with any horse at any experience level to increase your level of lightness and communication, both in and out of the saddle. (Also works as a great safety pre-ride check before you mount or settling a distracted horse.)

COSTS: Participation in the 3 hour clinic costs $100. Bring a horse of any age or experience level (must be able to maintain safety and control the entire time, and no stallions please). Auditing is open to all and completely free, so feel free to bring your friends and fam along!

PARTICIPANT SPOTS in the clinic are limited to only EIGHT horse and handler teams. Your spot is reserved when you submit your registration purchase through this site, which is refundable in the form of future clinic credits up to one week before the clinic date. If tickets are sold out it means the list is full, but feel free to add yourself to the waiting list in the case a spot opens up, or look for another clinic day with spots left.

We try to foster an upbeat, fun-loving atmosphere that encourages everyone in their own unique journey with no pressure and plenty of laughs. Because as Justin would say: “this horse thing is too expensive NOT to be fun and rewarding.”
